Construction milestone for new Calderdale care home being built on factory site which will include ‘American-style’ diner
The structural framework of the home where the Crosslee factory used to be, off Halifax Road in Hipperholme, has now been completed.
Burghley Care, which is delivering the home, says it will include an “American-style diner”.
Plans for the home along with 172 new homes were approved in 2024.
Supermarket giant Lidl has also announced it wants to build a new store on another part of the site.
For many years, tumble driers were made at the Crosslee factory site, before the company closed in 2019.
Expected to open in the summer, the home will provide seventy-two en-suite bedrooms alongside communal areas, landscaped gardens and spaces dedicated to activities and relaxation.
Plans for Calderdale care honeMax Weizman, investment director for Octopus Real Estate – which is funding the home – said: “There’s a high demand for elderly care beds in the location and we’re delighted to be working with our partners, Burghley Care on the operation of this home.”
Chris Lane, co-founder of Burghley Care and chairman of operating partner Park Lane Healthcare, said: “I’ve been running care homes for more than 20 years and throughout that time my focus has always been on high standards, team investment, and making sure the homes we operate feel warm and welcoming.
“We work closely with regulators and independent inspection bodies because accountability is important in maintaining high quality standards giving families reassurance. That same approach will underpin everything we do at Hipperholme.”
